Performance Remapping

Chip tuning is the original method from which modern ECU remapping evolved. Traditionally, chip tuning involved physically removing the EPROM chip from the ECU, programming new software directly onto the chip on the bench. This software modification — what we now call “remapping” — involves altering the original calibration data stored within the chip.

While still valid for older vehicles, chip tuning has largely been replaced by OBD remapping, which allows the ECU to be reprogrammed via the vehicle’s diagnostic port. Both methods achieve the same result, but OBD tuning is far less intrusive and doesn't require opening or removing the ECU.

However, with the advancement of ECU technology, many newer models feature locked TriCore processors, which block access via the OBD port. In these cases, ECU access requires opening the unit and connecting directly to the board — still less invasive than traditional chip tuning, as the EPROM is not removed. The only trade-off is that the ECU casing must be opened, which may affect warranty conditions.

Comprehensive ECU Expertise

At TuningWorx, we work with all types and generations of ECUs — from early EDC units that require traditional chip tuning, to the latest MEDC17 ECUs with TriCore processors and tuner protection. Every remap we provide is developed using dyno testing and real-time logging to ensure your engine operates safely within factory tolerances.

Key Engine Parameters We Monitor:

Air-Fuel Ratios (AFR)
We carefully tune to maintain the optimal stoichiometric ratio, ensuring the engine doesn’t run too lean or rich. Correct AFRs are vital for performance, fuel economy, and emissions compliance — especially for MOT testing.

Boost Pressure
We manage boost levels to prevent spikes or dips that can shorten turbocharger lifespan. Overboosting can force the compressor beyond its design limits, leading to premature failure.

Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGT)
Raising fuel and boost naturally increases EGTs. We log and control EGTs to stay within safe limits, ensuring engine durability. This also helps evaluate the performance of upgraded components like intercoolers.

Injector Duty Cycle (IDC)
Monitoring IDC helps us identify the fuelling limits of your injectors. Some vehicles run near 100% IDC from the factory, leaving little room for safe performance gains without hardware upgrades. Pushing beyond this without adding fuel capacity could lead to lean running and severe engine damage.

Safe, Reliable Tuning with TuningWorx

Our tuning philosophy is rooted in precision, safety, and reliability. Every TuningWorx calibration is built with the same level of care — whether for retail customers or trade partners. We never push your engine beyond what its standard components can safely handle. Your vehicle’s longevity and dependability are as important to us as they are to you.
